POSITION ANNOUNCEMENT

Title: Web Editor, Foreign Affairs
Full Time

Founded in 1921, the Council on Foreign Relations is a leading nonprofit and nonpartisan membership organization, think tank, and publisher of the journal, Foreign Affairs, the pre-eminent journal on global issues It is dedicated to increasing America’s understanding of the world and contributing ideas to U.S. foreign policy.

The Web editor will be part of Foreign Affairs’ editorial team.  He/she will help to relaunch the publication’s website and then manage the site’s editorial activities afterward, helping to develop, commission, and edit various online features, some entirely new and some derived from content appearing in the print magazine.  

Required Qualifications:

  • excellent writing skills;
  • significant editing experience;
  • a strong understanding of foreign policy and international affairs;
  • the ability to juggle a wide range of tasks on deadline and work well with writers, editors, Web producers, and circulation and advertising staff;
  • experience with web publishing and multimedia editing skills (preferred).

INTERNSHIP OPPORTUNITY

Department : Foreign Affairs Editorial

Length of internship : 1 Year, Starting in August

The Academic Year Internship is a full-time, paid position offering exceptional training in serious journalism. The intern works as an assistant editor with substantial responsibility and is involved in all aspects of the editorial process — editing, proofreading, evaluating manuscripts, research, fact-checking, and production work.

Previous interns have included recent graduates from undergraduate and master's programs. Candidates should have a serious interest in international relations, a flair for writing, and a facility with the English language.

Qualified candidates may mail a cover letter, résumé, three writing samples of five pages or less, and three letters of recommendation (academic or professional) to the above address. (We do not accept applications by email.) Complete applications must be received by March 14, 2008, for the 2008-9 academic year position. Only finalists will be interviewed.
